The Naghash Ensemble
Music
The Naghash Ensemble combines the earthy spirituality of Armenian folk songs, new classical music and contemporary post-minimalism with the energy of rock and jazz. Three brilliant singers and some of Armenia's finest instrumentalists perform captivating new music based on sacred texts by the medieval Armenian mystic poet and priest Mkrtich Naghash.
The Naghash Ensemble presents their Songs of Exile, a reflection on the relationship between man and God from the perspective of a monk who had to live in exile for many years. It was written by the Armenian-American composer John Hodian. "Part folk music, part classical, and deeply moving. Unmistakably Armenian, yet otherworldly," wrote the Armenisch-Deutsche Korrespondenz. Be surprised by the exceptionally beautiful sound of Armenian music and experience what Rolling Stone described as "A moment of grace and meditation."
