The Voice of Ukraine
Classical music
Borys Lyatoshynsky’s String Quartet on Ukrainian Themes opens the evening with a powerful musical image of a nation.
An evening filled with Ukrainian timbre and modern expression
Centuries-old melodies merge with contemporary language to create a tense and recognisable sound. Victoria Poleva's Simurgh Quintet then transports the audience to a spiritual world. The music exudes light, tranquillity and depth and is inspired by the mythical bird that strives for unity and transcendence.
In Drop After Drop, Maxim Shalygin creates an intimate dialogue for piano four hands. Soft patterns and layered movements evoke the flow of time and memory. Finally, Borys Fedorov provides a playful conclusion with his Tango from the Pierre Richard Suite. A light-hearted and charming note that leaves the programme with a slight smile.
