A Kind of Presence
23 May - 20 Jun
The exhibition A Kind of Presence focuses on the human figure, both visible and absent. In their work, photographers Lisanne Hoogerwerf and Nienke Elenbaas explore the relationship between people, their surroundings and emotion. Through a careful use of lighting, colour and composition, they create images that feel mysterious, poetic and multi-layered.
Atmosphere, mystery and imagination
The exhibition brings together contemporary photography in which atmosphere and interpretation play a key role. The images do not provide direct answers, but invite visitors to interpret what they see for themselves.
Dreamy and poetic photography by Lisanne Hoogerwerf
In her work, photographer Lisanne Hoogerwerf explores the alienated relationship between people, nature and culture. Her photographs often depict abandoned huts, oppressive landscapes and mysterious scenes in which people are absent, yet remain tangibly present.
Through her distinctive use of light and colour, the images take on a painterly and almost dreamlike atmosphere. It is precisely because it is not clear exactly what is happening that space is created for personal interpretation. This makes her photography at once universal, poetic and poignant.
Narrative and tranquil images by Nienke Elenbaas
Nienke Elenbaas’s photographic works are characterised by a strong aesthetic and a cinematic quality. Her images are reminiscent of tranquil scenes from a film, in which emotions are palpable but never fully revealed.
The stylised figures in her work seem detached from time and context, giving memories, feelings and personal experiences a universal significance. In the stillness of her photography lies an almost sacred atmosphere of hope, vulnerability and emotion.
