Cirque Mania #21

Circus festival Cirque Mania returns to Korzo with its 21st edition.

Cirque Mania is the first place in the Netherlands where you can see new work by talented international circus makers. The theme of this edition? The art of contrasts! Circus programmer Mirjam Zwanenburg has made a selection of acts that play with the enigmatic tension of opposites. With fluid floor acrobatics, tightly controlled handstands, graceful aerial acts, rattling constructions and nerve-racking juggling.

• Just the moon: Acro-juggler Raff Pringuet performs a remarkable duet with a state-of-the-art, automated theatre lamp. This sheds remarkable light on the relationship between man and machine.
• Codarts Circus Arts: No fewer than 19 second-year students from Codarts Rotterdam demonstrate how diverse and daring the new circus is.
• The Kettle is Always On: The handstand sisters 'Nolan' know better than anyone how rituals can provide stability in a chaotic world. But what if you reunite after 10 years and everyone needs different rituals?  
• Tornado's Eye: Diabolo and Cyr wheel artist David Eisele fights for his childhood dream with enviable calm amid the chaos.
• Insomnia: A visual spectacle in which Jakob Jacobsson unravels how differently people experience time. With aerial acrobatics, crackling strobe lights and an impressive light art installation, time and reality seem to merge.
• Cirquemétrage: What happens when your routine is suddenly thrown off balance? Júlia takes you into the rhythm of office life. Full of trapeze, mouth balancing and knife throwing that bring together magic and absurdity.
• The Idle Hour: A fascinating interplay between two acrobats, one restless, the other calm. Confront our relentless drive for productivity and the race for elusive happiness.

In the new circus, you won't see clowns and fat ringmasters; instead, you'll see spectacular stunts, groundbreaking physical movements and innovative storytelling. Circus is by and for everyone who doesn't want to be pigeonholed. Unless that's your act, of course.
