Music by Sofia Gubaidulina, Alfred Schnittke, Dmitri Shostakovich, Arvo Pärt, Antonio Vivaldi, Nuno Lobo and George Crumb, performed by Tim Brackman, Inga Våga Gaustad, Floor Le Coultre, Pieter de Koe, Kalle de Bie, Jordi Carrasco Hjelm, Rik Kuppen , David Jansen, Robbrecht van Cauwenberghe, Jelmer de Moed, Eva-Nina Kozmus, Georgia Burashko.

Nineteen festival musicians descend on the Palace Church for the Kindred Spirits festival. Classical NOW! Jelmer gave de Moed carte blanche to put together his dream program. He is a clarinetist and, with Studio de Moed, the initiator of multidisciplinary musical theater. In Geestverwanten he presents compositions in a wide range of settings, from solo to full-stage. A time travel through several centuries, from Vivaldi to brand new premiere pieces.

A program with composers who share artistic ideals. Sofia Gubaidulina upset the Soviet authorities with religiously themed works. Shostakovich urged her to continue writing 'dangerous music'. He also composed 'dangerously' in the roaring twenties, such as in his First Piano Trio. Alfred Schnittke wrote his dissident composition 'Hymne II' for Gubaidulina.

Arvo Pärt was blacklisted by the Soviet regime in the 1960s because of religious music. He did not write any new pieces for ten years. He looked for a different style: maximum expression with a minimum of resources. 'Fratres' is one of the first pieces in which he found his own sound. He found inspiration in old music, such as Vivaldi. Georgia Burashko performs his Stabat Mater.

Nuno Lobo gives voice to life in the deep sea in 'Stargazer Fish'. He searches for groundbreaking timbres, with George Crumb's 'Eleven Echoes of Autumn' as a source of inspiration. With the installation 'Monolith' by video artist Vincent Rang, the surreal sound worlds are given a visual form.
