Unboxed Poetry is a chamber jazz concert where composition and improvisation dissolve into one another, unfolding in real time through sound, movement, and imagination. Positioned between jazz and experimental music, Emilio Parrilla Acoustic Band creates a refined and flexible sonic world shaped by collective improvisation and deep musical listening.

Ten years after their acclaimed debut album Tribute to Jimmy Giuffre, clarinetist and composer Emilio Parrilla presents a renewed artistic vision through the use of his Fantasy Boxes—sculptural, mechanical objects that function simultaneously as scores, visual artworks, and “mechanical musicians.” These kinetic creations guide and inspire the performers, generating poetic narratives through motion, texture, and sound, and opening new pathways for improvisation.

Praised by JazzFlits as “chamber jazz on the highest level,” the ensemble is led by the core trio of Emilio Parrilla (clarinet), Yoojin Ko (flute), and S’yo Yen (piano). For this special performance, they are joined by DUOT, the duo formed by Albert Cirera (saxophones) and Ramon Prats (drums/percussion), widely regarded as one of the leading voices in free jazz and improvised music on the Iberian Peninsula.

Together, Acoustic Band and DUOT transform the Fantasy Boxes into a living musical ecosystem. Written-sounding passages emerge organically from improvisation, while carefully shaped musical lines evolve with the freedom and unpredictability of the present moment. The result is an immersive and poetic concert experience—where sound, sculpture, and spontaneous creation converge in a continuously unfolding musical narrative.
