Hague Symphony Orchestra Euterpe
Music
Be surprised by the power and beauty of music composed by women! Hague Symphony Orchestra (HSO) Euterpe will play a concert featuring works by Clara Schumann-Wieck, Emilie Mayer and Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn on 17 May.
All three had been born in Germany, towards the beginning of the 19th century. Conducted by Ghassan Alaboud, the concert opens with Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn's Overture in C, her only work for orchestra. This is followed by Clara Schumann-Wieck's piano concerto. This piece was premiered in 1835, with Clara herself behind the grand piano. She was only 16 years old at the time! Very appropriate, then, that the soloist with HSO-Euterpe is also 16 years old. Sofia Dorosh came to the Netherlands from Ukraine in 2022. She was already an award-winning pianist there, and since living in the Netherlands she has won even more prizes, been on national TV, and performed at the Concertgebouw and in various festivals. The last work in the concert is the 1st symphony by Emilie Meyer, who was called ‘the female Beethoven’ during her lifetime.
