I’m So Happy You Are Here

While the work of Japanese male photographers has acceded to the (Western) cultural gaze in recent decades, Japanese female photographers have so far remained under the radar. With this exhibition, for the first time, a large stage is offered to the photographic work of Japanese women. But above all, it also highlights the female perspective on daily life in Japan and Japanese society.
Featuring photography from the 1950s to the present, I'm So Happy You Are Here showcases work by more than twenty-five artists from different generations, including Kawauchi Rinko, Isiuchi Miyako and Katayama Mari. Their work is characterised by a high degree of creativity and experimentation. The exhibition features photographs installations, videos and photo books.
