Latin In The Park: Salsa Brava of New York with Jorge Maldonado
Music
On September 6th, Latin in The Park concludes the 2025 season in grand style with a fiery tribute to the New York salsa of the seventies. The legendary Jorge Maldonado, former singer of the iconic Sonora Matancera, brings together with the Gerardo Rosales Orchestra the raw energy of Salsa Brava directly to the Zuiderparktheater.
The evening begins with an exclusive Salsa New York Style (On2) workshop, given by internationally renowned dancer and instructor Nando Lasso. Then the party erupts when Jorge Maldonado takes the stage, accompanied by Gerardo Rosales' sizzling orchestra. Expect compelling rhythms, swinging horns and a repertoire full of classics from salsa icons such as Héctor Lavoe, Ray Barretto, Willie Colón, Ismael Miranda and Rubén Blades.
Jorge Maldonado began his career in 1968 and gained worldwide recognition as a singer for Sonora Matancera. His hit "Mala Mujer" now has over 47 million streams on Spotify. In New York he worked with top formations such as Conjunto Libre and was part of the rise of Salsa Brava, a style characterized by power, passion and raw emotion. This special collaboration with the Gerardo Rosales Orchestra, which previously conquered the Zuiderparktheater during the tribute to Fania All Stars, makes this evening a unique experience that takes you to the vibrant New York of that era.
