A portrait of a person with gold makeup on their face.

From Saturday 6 June to Sunday 28 June, Pulchri Studio in The Hague is presenting a special exhibition by the artist Sergey Piskunov.

Hyperrealistic portraits

Sergey Piskunov’s paintings explore the boundary between what is visible and what remains hidden. Through his hyperrealistic portraits and the distinctive ‘Masks’ series, the fragility of identity takes centre stage. Golden, flaking textures on the skin serve as a visual metaphor for the tension between our inner world and how we present ourselves to others. The gold reflects light, breaks through the surface and intensifies the sense of change, stillness and emotional depth.

Exhibition at Pulchri Studio

For the exhibition at Pulchri Studio, the artist presents a selection of portraits in which psychological distance, stillness and human presence converge. Each work emerges from a meticulous process of photography, layered painting techniques and hand-painted golden details. The result is a series of meditative paintings that invite the viewer to look longer and discover their own story behind the mask. This contemporary portraiture reveals how identity, emotion and perception are in a state of constant flux.
