Sónico - Rovira Tribute, a celebration of the unknown
World music
The musicians of the Roviro tribute band bring the tango to life, a pure lesson in Latin American music history at the Korzo theatre.
Educardo Rovira tribute
The forgotten father of Argentine tango, Educardo Rovira, 50 years ago, was ahead of his time. Rovira had guts. He challenged the prevailing view that classical music had more value than tango. How? By combining exactly the two.
The members of SONICO, five Brussels-based musicians just back from a tour across Argentina and Chile are determined to show us why Rovira deserves a tribute. SONICO brings the tango to life like no other, a feast of recognition for seasoned listeners and a pure lesson in Latin American music history for new ears.
About SONICO
SONICO has been the only band in the world playing to bring Rovira's music back to life for a decade. Featuring Lysandre Donoso on bandoneón, Alejandro Schwarz on guitar, Stephen Meyer on violin, Ivo de Greef behind the piano and Ariel Eberstein on double bass. Like a pair of musicologists, these musicians dig into the unknown history of tango. In search of hidden recordings and forgotten archives from the 1950s onwards, they put together new musical puzzle pieces. And they put these back into collaborations with ballet companies or orchestras. From the Concertgebouw in Bruges to Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall: as an audience, you won't forget not only Rovira but also SONICO any time soon.
