What is ‘Uit je Dak’?
The Hague has plenty of roof space. During ‘Uit je Dak’, you’ll discover how this space can be used for greenery, sustainability, energy, sport and socialising. Six rooftops will be open to visitors on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September.
For example, take a look at new approaches to gardening and energy solutions at EnergieKas Helena. Discover what green roofs mean for biodiversity on the roof of Leiden University. Or take a guided tour through the historic stairwell up to the roof of De Bijenkorf.
Which rooftops in The Hague can you visit?
The following venues are taking part in ‘Uit je Dak’:
- Helena Energy Greenhouse
- Leiden University, Spui University Campus
- De Bijenkorf
- Ministry of the Navy
- Laakhavens Centre
- Living Lab Binckhaven
On the roofs, you can see how various forms of greening and sustainable use work in practice. These include green roofs, a rooftop flower meadow, solar panels, sustainable energy solutions, and systems for water and planting.
What can you expect from ‘Uit je Dak’?
The programme varies by location. At EnergieKas Helena, there are guided tours and yoga classes. On the roof terrace of Leiden University, you can learn more about biodiversity and green roofs.
At De Bijenkorf, you can take a guided tour of the roof. On the roof of the Ministry of the Navy, you can take part in a group fitness class. Centrum Laakhavens showcases examples of green roofs, including a movable green roof on a cork base. At Living Lab Binckhaven, you can discover various solutions for a greener living environment.
For some activities, you need to book in advance. You can visit other rooftops without booking.
