A group of nine musicians posing after a performance.

On Wednesday 14 February, Ensemble Barok Bruggen will present a contemporary interpretation of The Fairy Queen, the famous Baroque opera by Henry Purcell. This semi-staged opera will be performed in the Mauritshuis, surrounded by 17th-century art.

The ensemble consists of ten musicians, including a baritone and soprano. The performance is musically directed by violinist Ryo Terakado, who specialises in historical repertoire. The interactive direction was designed by architect and interior designer Ayla Azizova. The audience is actively involved in the performance.

The opera is inspired by William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and combines poetry, humour and Baroque music in an innovative way. In collaboration with the Mauritshuis, this creates a unique encounter between music, art and history.
