Step into a world where poetry becomes tangible and rituals are revived. La Niña Barro is no ordinary performance, but a meditative and visual experience that takes you on a journey through time, culture and inner growth. In Theater de Vaillant in The Hague, this unique performance comes to life touchingly enchanted, challenged and deeply touched.
A woman of clay and the beginning of everything
Born from the words of Spanish poet Marta Massé, La Niña Barro tells the story of a woman made of clay. From her first breath to her development into an adult being, her journey is told with a minimum of words and a maximum of feeling. The performance invites contemplation: about who we are, and what shapes us.
Old rituals, new meaning
With influences from ancient creation myths and fertility rituals, the performance manages to touch on universal themes. The combination of physical expression, intense colours and live music from Zimbabwe lifts Massé's poetic work to a universal level, where cultural boundaries blur. La Niña Barro asks a fundamental question: are we born as social beings, or are we shaped by our environment? The performance reflects on identity, community and the longing for origins, leaving room for everyone's own interpretation.
Africa and Europe in one breath
This performance brings together the blistering rhythms of Southern Africa with the subdued melancholy of Northern Europe. The result is an artistic clash that feels harmonious and lingers long after.
