La Reina del Metal
In La Reina del Metal, dance maker Vanesa Aibar and percussionist Enric Monfort explore the boundaries of movement and sound - to the extreme. They create an overwhelming flamenco soundscape from flamenco rhythms, thrilling metal percussion and electronics.
About the performance
Body becomes sound. And sound becomes body. Aibar, wrapped in chains, takes off the chains of flamenco, striding and dancing on the edge of exhaustion. With musical jack-of-all-trades Enric Monfort, she draws new, exciting flamenco views in La Reina del Metal. The spatial sound system of the Dutch collective 4DSOUND immerses the spectator in a flamenco sound bath that will reverberate for a long time.
Dance maker Vanesa Aibar (Jaén, 1983) was one of the surprises of the Flamenco Biennale in 2019. There she met percussionist and musical jack-of-all-trades Enric Monfort (Valencia, 1979), with whom she created this new work at the festival's request.
La Reina del Metal, the festival creation of the Flamenco Biennale 2023, had its world premiere in Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam in January 2023 and then continued its triumphant march in Spain. 'La Reina' was awarded best dance performance at the Spanish stage prizes, the Premios Max.
