New New Babylon: Visions for Another Tomorrow
17 May - 31 Aug
Exhibition
From 29 March to 31 August 2025, Kunstmuseum Den Haag presents the international group exhibition New New Babylon: Visions for Another Tomorrow. Inspired by the visionary project New Babylon (1956–1974) by artist Constant Nieuwenhuys, the exhibition focuses on radical imagination and designing alternative futures. What does it mean to look ahead in a world full of technological, ecological and social transformations?

Leading and emerging artists, designers, thinkers and activists from around the world show how imagination can function as a force, a necessity and a way out. From breathing machines to greenhouses on container ships: New New Babylon invites us to look differently at being human and living together. The starting point is the visionary project New Babylon (1956-1974) by Constant Nieuwenhuys, a key work in the collection of Kunstmuseum Den Haag. With it he shaped a society for ultimate creativity and freedom to play.
Artists: Afra Eisma, Embassy of the North Sea, Carlijn Kingma, Hella Jongerius, Oscar Murillo, Jonas Staal, Yamuna Forzani & Céline Hurka, The Otolith Group, Sam Samiee, Emma Talbot and many others.

In the spotlight: Afra Eisma
For New New Babylon, Afra Eisma created a playful, soft space that facilitates rest, encounter and reflection. Her colourful installations with cheerful, tactile motifs are inviting and profound at the same time. They offer a place where difficult emotions are given a right to exist – without losing the fun or activism. In a world that feels increasingly uncertain, Eisma's textile worlds are a powerful plea for human warmth and embrace.
