On Liberation Day, our freedom is celebrated in The Hague with the Hague Freedom Meals. In the run-up to and on May 5, various events are taking place that are related to this. A photo exhibition in the Atrium The Hague, a mobile soup bus through various neighborhoods and dozens of meals throughout the city are part of this, among other things.

The Hague Freedom Dinners

Tuesday 5 May is the day when we eat soup together and celebrate our freedom. We do this through The Hague Freedom Meals. Because meeting new people broadens your horizons and eating together brings people together. Why not organise a meal yourself, or join us on 5 May at the  City Meal at Amare or a meal in your neighbourhood

City Meal

Every year, we organise one truly grand meal: the City Banquet. A meal where hundreds of residents of The Hague gather around the table at an iconic location in the city. This year, the table will be set on the stage at Amare. No fewer than 500 residents of The Hague will come together there on Liberation Day to eat, chat and enjoy a rich cultural programme.

A programme featuring, among others, a performance by the Residentie Orkest. A programme that amazes, brings people together and sparks conversation. And the great thing is: it’s not just the programme in the auditorium that takes centre stage that day. On 5 May, a range of activities will be on offer throughout the theatre and on Spuiplein. This ensures that as many residents of The Hague as possible are involved in a festive 5 May celebration.

More than eighty Freedom Meals across the city

More than 80 ‘The Hague Freedom Meals’ have now been registered. Meals are taking place all over the city, ranging from breakfast to a full-course dinner and from sports clubs to company canteens.

The Hague Freedom Dinners bring people together and encourage us to reflect on what freedom means to you. Do come along to a dinner near you.

Freedom soup, based on a recipe by Janny van der Heijden

Every year, a well-known chef has the honour of creating and preparing the Freedom Soup; this time, it is Janny van der Heijden who has come up with the recipe. On 5 May, her white soup will be served at all the Freedom Dinners across the city.

Janny (known for her appearances on *Heel Holland Bakt*, among other things) is delighted to be involved in the Freedom Meals. "The Freedom Soup is a really great initiative. I always say: if there’s one thing that brings people together, it’s food."

For the first time this year, a pop-up soup shop will be open on Spuiplein from 15 April to 5 May. The Freedom Soup will also be available here.
