What does peace really mean? Is it merely the absence of war, or something more layered, more intimate, more substantive? Around the globe, “peace” is often presented as a destination: a final, fragile state we arrive at once the noise has died down. But in our communities, in our politics, and even in our own lives, peace can take many shapes.

Drawing from her unique perspective across continents, movements, and institutions, Yvonne Apiyo Brändle-Amolo invites us to rethink our definitions of peace, not just as a policy goal, but as a practice of truth-telling, creative resistance, and meaningful inclusion. What happens when we move beyond the myth of peace as silence, and the absence of violence? Let’s examine together how our stories, our politics, and our communities can reshape what peace looks like, today.
