Resilient resistance through dance
About the performance
XANUUN is Somali for 'pain' and is a poignant performance about Somali youths who migrated to the United Kingdom via the Netherlands. The five talented dancers of X_YUSUF_BOSS bring their stories to life. We see them searching for safety and a new future, but instead encountering exclusion and violence.
On the dance floor, we become involved in their struggle, which is fought deep inside but also becomes visible and tangible in their striking movements. The raw beats of Grime and Trap music styles – which are the voice of the street and resistance in British culture – take us into the harsh reality, but also into their inexhaustible resilience.
