Interior of a gallery with abstract paintings on the wall.

Sabine Käppler creates objects that surprise, move and challenge. Her work invites us to look differently – to see through it.

Sabine sees through things

My jealousy was awakened when I saw her cactus collages (studies 2019). Cacti clustered together in an oval shape. Cacti as if they were frightened animals. Stimulatingly beautiful. I wanted to make these spatial collages. Looking back, I was already jealous of her portraits of baked bread dough. Sooner or later, we will all get a face made of bread dough. Before that happens, you, reader/viewer, may also become jealous of one or more of Sabine's works. Start with a golden stone (Transformed Buddhas). They are as big as real wealth, without the burden of possession. Pick it up and feel it. Hold it with caution. Sabine's art is not meant to be grasped, but to be looked at. Her 'Loops' are also enviable. Small elements that together form a solidified journey, or are they leaps of thought? With art, you, the viewer, must determine the meaning yourself, and that meaning can change before your eyes. Sabine is currently working with bees, an old love. Cardboard honeycombs are filled with coloured wax crayons. The objects feel like wax. You can cherish them lying down or hang them on the wall. Sabine: "The smell of beeswax, propolis and honey cannot be described in words. Perhaps I am looking for a form for that." Artists are always searching and only know what they are looking for when they have found it. Once you have seen Sabine Käppler's art, you will never forget it. It has something elemental about it, without frills, as if Sabine sees through things and translates the incomprehensible. You cannot fly any higher than that.
