Frank Van den Broeck - Fire and Fiction

The origin of the sculptures of Frank Van den Broeck (1950) lies in his drawings. At the end of the nineties, this resulted in quirky heads and faces with wide-open eyes and mouths. Often they touch on complete abstraction, with just a hint of figuration. The usually experimental and improvisational process of creation remains visible in it, as it were recorded in the clay. In his studio he makes various arrangements with it, often combined with drawings, pieces of cloth and other materials that are within reach.
He then records these temporary situations with the camera. The sculptures, drawings and photographs together form a fascinating reservoir of observations, memories and artistic influences. Together with his drawings, these will be on display in the Cabinet from 8 July.
