Kayhan Kalhor Ensemble brings ‘Songs of Hope’ to The Hague!

Kayhan Kalhor is a virtuoso on the stringed instrument the kamancheh and plays an important role in making Persian music known worldwide. He is known for his energising improvisations, mesmerising compositions and inspiring collaborations. Kalhor is joined by setar virtuoso Kiya Tabassian and Hadi Hosseini, a rising star among the new generation of Iranian vocalists. With their magisterial musicality, the musicians pay an emotional tribute to Iranian cultural traditions.

This concert is a cry for hope and freedom, inspired by one of the most fascinating civilisations: Iran. The sophisticated gardens of Shiraz and the mosaics of Isafah have long defined the country's legendary reputation. But Iran's -thousands of years old- cultural heritage is also characterised by remarkable musical and poetic traditions.

In Songs of Hope, four virtuoso musicians as bearers of the traditions pay tribute to the richness and beauty of this culture. The sublime kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor enters into a musical dialogue with Kiya Tabassian on the setar, while singer Hadi Hosseini sings in Persian, bringing this timeless tradition to life.
