The Royal Conservatoire presents a classical music concert by Royal Winds at the Conservatoriumzaal in Amare, The Hague. The programme connects the musical history of the conservatoire with contemporary talent, conducted by Alex Schillings.

Royal Winds brings a programme rooted in the history of the Royal Conservatoire. Works by former teachers Henk Badings and Hendrik Andriessen appear alongside the TwoBone Concerto by alumnus Johan de Meij, a work for two trombones and wind orchestra. Soloists Thijn Mariman and Jan van de Watering, both students at the conservatoire, take on the solo parts. The concert closes with Stärna, a composition by recently graduated Sander van Dorst, who is also active as a conductor.

The Royal Winds programme shows how the Royal Conservatoire connects generations of musicians and composers. Henk Badings, one of the most prolific Dutch composers of the twentieth century, is represented by Royal Fanfare 'Reflections'. Hendrik Andriessen – conductor, organist and a central figure in Dutch conservatoire life – is heard with his Ricercare. Johan de Meij wrote the TwoBone Concerto specifically for two trombonists: technically demanding yet accessible to a wide audience. A Van Anrooy rhapsody on Piet Hein, orchestrated by W. Steijn, rounds off the programme with colour.

The concert takes place in the Conservatoriumzaal at Amare, The Hague's music and dance centre. Amare offers excellent acoustics for wind orchestra music and serves as the Royal Conservatoire's main concert venue. Admission is free; booking in advance via the ticket page is recommended.
