What does the Van Ommeren–De Voogt Prize entail?

During Pulchri Studio’s annual members’ exhibition, the Autumn Salon, three artists are nominated for the Van Ommeren – De Voogt Prize. Each year, the foundation behind the prize offers the winner and the two nominees the opportunity to hold a joint exhibition.

In this edition, Tair Uria, Jessica Muller and Paul Bruijninckx are presenting their work together in a single exhibition.

About Tair Uria

Tair Uria works with sculpture, video, drawing and kinetic assemblages. Her work explores complex systems and movements. She herself describes her installations as ‘self-sabotaging machines’: fragile constructions that are constantly changing and questioning themselves.

A recurring motif in her work is the crocodile, which appears both as a moving form and a visual symbol. In her studio, Tair combines materials such as ceramics, metal, stretch fabrics, paper and electronics to create fragile yet dynamic systems.

About Jessica Muller

In Jessica Muller’s work, the painting process takes centre stage. Without a fixed plan, the image emerges from movement, colour and material.

As she paints, forms constantly appear and disappear. Layers of colour, lines and textures alternate until a new balance emerges. Her paintings invite visitors to discover their own associations and images.

About Paul Bruijninckx

In his paintings, Paul Bruijninckx seeks to combine elements of Impressionism, Expressionism and cartoon-like distortion. His work emerges from colour and material, without a preconceived image.

Colour plays a significant role in his working method. It determines form, movement and composition. His paintings reveal what emerges during the creative process itself.
