Since childhood, she has been making things in all available free time. Initially embroidery and making animals from felt or rope, then sewing: doll clothes, patchwork and finally my own clothes. But also: calligraphy, paper cutting, making wooden puzzles, painting blown-out Easter eggs, knitting, upholstering and bricklaying: everything appealed to me, but each time I discovered something new.
Until she started doing ceramics in 1996. It was such a challenge and at the same time so satisfying that - twenty years ago now - she quit her job and became a full-time ceramist.
She soon developed a taste for ‘trompe l'oeil’. Real but not real. And then, if possible, with a ‘twist’. For instance, the texts of the books sometimes contain weird interjections, the medieval alphabet shows lovely flowers, but the alphabet names are of modern poisons. The peepholes of all helmets are so small that they offer no visibility at all. This, meanwhile, is sadly the reality again: soldiers of past and present are sent blindly into the battlefield.
