DRIFT. Dune to Dogger Bank
21 Mar - 13 Sep
DRIFT. From the Dunes to Dogger Bank is more than an exhibition. It is a sensory journey through works of art that express the fragile yet powerful relationship between humans and the sea. From the 19th-century seascapes and dune landscapes of Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten to contemporary installations, sculptures and interactive artworks: each work invites us to look differently. At nature. At the sea. At the future. And to our own role in it.

As early as 1881, artist couple Hendrik Willem Mesdag and Sientje Mesdag-van Houten invited the public to view the North Sea and the dunes with fresh eyes. With Mesdag's impressive Panorama of Scheveningen, they drew attention to the preservation of the Seinpostduin and the vulnerability of the coastal landscape.
Now, 145 years later, that urgency is greater than ever. In co-curatorship with the Embassy of the North Sea, Museum Panorama Mesdag invites 22 contemporary artists, researchers and creators to follow in the footsteps of the Mesdags. Their artworks depict and question our relationship with the North Sea and the coastal landscape. DRIFT.
Dune to Dogger Bank allows visitors not only to look, but also to listen, feel, smell and experience. DRIFT also lives outside the museum halls. An extensive public programme offers depth and encounters, with inspiring lectures, conversations with experts, exclusive cultural walks, creative workshops and a Beach Clean Up in collaboration with Stichting de Noordzee.
