Heringa en Van Kalsbeek - Spring tide

Liet Heringa and Maarten van Kalsbeek have been working together under the name Heringa/Van Kalsbeek for 25 years. Their sculptures contain a great deal of spectacle and there is always the suggestion of movement. “What the hell happened here?, you often hear people think when they see one of our works,” says the duo, who build sculptures from iron, cast synthetic resin, ropes and other materials. “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of materials, and the possibilities are endless.” In the exhibition Spring tide, which they have created especially for the Projektenzaal, the artists bring together the three series of Guardians, for which a Japanese statue of a king-custodian from the thirteenth century formed the starting point. Also on display: sculptures that work as spatial models; with a frontstage and a backstage.
