Pritam Das
Workshop at Theatre De Regentes in The Hague. Pritam Das leads an intensive Indian classical dance masterclass for intermediate to advanced dancers in the Studio of Theatre De Regentes.
Adavu's are the fundamental building blocks of Indian classical dance, but in this masterclass they go beyond technical exercises. Pritam Das invites dancers to explore how rhythm, breath, alignment and intention come together in a living dance practice. How do you transcend purely technical execution and experience Nritta as an inspired, embodied discipline? That is the central question of the day.
Structure of the masterclass with Pritam Das
The session begins with a body training programme developed specifically for dancers, focused on strength, stamina, coordination, balance and neural activation. Participants then deepen their understanding of adavu's as gateways to rhythmic insight and artistic interpretation. Together, the group investigates how breath drives movement, how energy flows through the body and what possibilities these foundational dance elements can unlock.
Tillana in Ananda Bhairavi
The repertoire section of the masterclass centres on a Tillana in Ragam Ananda Bhairavi, composed by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. Using this composition as a framework, questions around musicality, phrasing and artistic interpretation are explored. The masterclass is suitable for dancers with intermediate to advanced experience in Indian classical dance forms and runs from 11:00 to 17:30.
