Vrolijk wordt de Scheveningse klederdracht aangetrokken tussen de schilderijen in Muzee

Discover how traditional Scheveningen clothing has evolved over time and is finding new life today.

From 5 September 2025 to 28 June 2026, Thread & Tradition at Muzee Scheveningen shows how traditional local dress has changed with the times. From everyday wear in a fishing village to a source of inspiration for contemporary fashion. Visitors discover stories of identity, tradition and transformation.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration with thirty people from the Scheveningen community. Young and old shared memories, explored the history and reflected on the future of this local heritage. Filmmaker and fashion researcher Theodorus Johannes followed the process. His documentary is part of the exhibition.

The museum's historical period rooms have been transformed for the occasion. In a special studio, visitors can get hands-on with materials and contribute to a growing community artwork.

Spotlight Festival

The exhibition opens on 5 September during the Spotlight Festival. That evening, young makers from Young Art @ Sea add extra energy with music, installations and performances.

"Traditional dress from Scheveningen is not a thing of the past, but living heritage that continues to inspire."
