The best tips for summer in The Hague

Of course The Hague is always beautiful and fun. Every season has its charm and there is always something to do. How nice is the summer period. It is long daylight, the sun shines exuberantly, the roses bloom beautifully in the Westbroekpark. From attractions to beach bars to excursions, there is a lot to discover. We are happy to give you some inspiration to fully enjoy the long summer in The Hague.

Things to do outside in summertime

  • Roses in bloom in the Westbroekpark
    Visit the beautiful rosarium in the Westbroekpark.
     
  • The coast
    The beach bars are running at full speed, book a nice beach bed and enjoy! With a little help from the weather gods, you'll be sitting somewhere along our 11-kilometer coastline in the summer enjoying a drink on a terrace. Which beach best suits you?
     
  • Estate Ockenburgh
    Lovely walk at Landgoed Ockenburgh. Here you forget that you are in a busy city! A beautiful piece of nature in The Hague!
     
  • Walking on the Clingendael estate
    On the Clingendael estate you can enjoy a lovely walk in the summer. The Japanese garden is also located on the estate. This garden is only open twice a year because it is so fragile because of the rare flowers and plants. The Japanese Garden (the oldest and largest Japanese garden in the Netherlands) is therefore the pride of Clingendael.

Must do in The Hague

  • Art and Antiques Market
    Although this market takes place all year round, it is most atmospheric during summer when it is on the Lange Voorhout. This stately avenue lends itself very well for strolling along the many stalls full of antiques, books, paintings and art. Take a break on one of the cozy terraces around the market. From spring onwards, all kinds of food, lifestyle and creative markets will be organized in the city.
     
  • Sculpture Clingenbosch
    One of the best kept secrets is the sculpture garden of Clingenbosch. This is the estate that also houses the Voorlinden museum. From May to October there is a guided tour of the impressive sculpture garden every Thursday. Here you will come across work by, for example, Henry Moore and Anish Kapoor. You must register in advance for this tour. An absolute must!
     
  • Excursions
    Learn more about The Hague during a walk or excursion. You can explore the city on your own with one of our free online walks. Or admire a number of courtyards with a guide from the Guild. Did you know that The Hague has more than 115 courtyards? Also nice: discover The Hague relaxed from the water during one of the canal cruises.

    Most outdoor attractions have opened up their doors again for a fun day out for the whole family. Admire the Netherlands in miniature at Madurodam, discover the marine life at Sealife or go on a rollercoaster in amusementpark Duinrell or familypark Drievliet

    LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Scheveningen is a indoor attraction, located on the Boulevard of Scheveningen next to SEA LIFE Scheveningen, based on the iconic LEGO® brick. There is plenty to do for children from 3 to 10 years old. 

  • Westbroekpark
    In the beautiful Westbroekpark, is tea room De Waterkant a great place for tea with cake or a glass of prosecco. In an active mood? Then rent one of the rowing boats and explore this beautiful park while rowing.
     
  • Pluk City Farm  
    Do the activity 'Nature Bingo' in Pluk The Hague petting zoo and botanical garden. A fun and educational outing for the whole family where you step into the countryside in the city.
     
  • Terraces and innergardens
    What better place for a cup of coffee then a terrace or a drink in a cozy courtyard? In addition to the terraces on the beach, The Hague has many more places where you can sit outside. You will find many terraces on the Grote Markt and Plein. And did you know that Café Schlemmer has a hidden courtyard? Also on Avenue Culinair (Bierkade) you can enjoy a view of the canal during your lunch.

The city center of The Hague is at its best for shopping when everyone is heading for the beach. Do you want to know everything about the different shopping areas in the region to discover new shops? Then get your inspiration here! In summer it is also wonderful to stroll through markets. You can indulge yourself at the Haagse Markt, the largest open-air market in Europe. Or at one of the many food and lifestyle markets.
