Summer in The Hague

Favourites

Of course The Hague is always beautiful and fun. Every season has its charm and there is always something to do. How nice is the summer period. It is long daylight, the sun shines exuberantly, the roses bloom beautifully in the Westbroekpark. From attractions to beach bars to excursions, there is a lot to discover. We are happy to give you some inspiration to fully enjoy the long summer in The Hague.

Things to do outside in summertime

  • Roses in bloom in the Westbroekpark
Visit the beautiful rosarium in the Westbroekpark.
  • The coast
The beach bars are running at full speed, book a nice beach bed and enjoy! With a little help from the weather gods, you'll be sitting somewhere along our 11-kilometer coastline in the summer enjoying a drink on a terrace, whether or not behind glass. Which beach suits you?
  • Estate Ockenburgh
Lovely walk at Landgoed Ockenburgh. Here you forget that you are in a busy city! A beautiful piece of nature in The Hague!
  • Walking on the Clingendael estate
On the Clingendael estate you can enjoy a lovely walk in the summer. The Japanese garden is also located on the estate. This garden is only open twice a year because it is so fragile because of the rare flowers and plants. The Japanese Garden (the oldest and largest Japanese garden in the Netherlands) is therefore the pride of Clingendael. Due to the Covid measures, the garden is unfortunately not open this spring. But we have a nice video so you can still admire the garden.

Must do in The Hague

  • Art and Antiques Market
Although this market takes place all year round, it is most atmospheric during summer when it is on the Lange Voorhout. This stately avenue lends itself very well for strolling along the many stalls full of antiques, books, paintings and art. Take a break on one of the cozy terraces around the market. From spring onwards, all kinds of food, lifestyle and creative markets will be organized in the city.

  • Sculpture Clingenbosch
One of the best kept secrets is the sculpture garden of Clingenbosch. This is the estate that also houses the Voorlinden museum. From May to October there is a guided tour of the impressive sculpture garden every Thursday. Here you will come across work by, for example, Henry Moore and Anish Kapoor. You must register in advance for this tour. An absolute must!

  • Excursions

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Scheveningen is a new indoor attraction, located on the Boulevard of Scheveningen next to SEA LIFE Scheveningen, based on the iconic LEGO® brick. There is plenty to do for children from 3 to 10 years old. Do you also enjoy playing with Lego? You can bring your parents, grandpa, grandma, aunt, uncle, teacher or whoever you want. The Waterkant tea room will open in March in the beautiful Westbroek Park. a nice place for a tea with cake or a glass of prosecco. In an active mood? Then rent one of the rowing boats and explore this beautiful park while rowing.

What better place for a cup of coffee then a terrace or a drink in a cozy courtyard? In addition to the terraces on the beach, The Hague has many more places where you can sit outside. You will find many terraces on the Grote Markt and Plein. Café Juni and Café Schlemmer have a hidden courtyard and on Avenue Culinair (Bierkade) you can enjoy a view of the canal during your lunch.
