Ch.I ——— dusk is an installation that explores the concept of duality: of what it means to be two contradictory things at once, to travel between polar opposites. The work presents a navigation behind tensions and transitions, and explores the equilibrium that duality can offer. Guided by her intuition and curiosity, Renata has researched duality through myth revisioning, focusing on a pervasive lack of nuance in gender ideology. Inspired by feminist revisions of Mesoamerican and European pre patriarchal cosmologies, the artist attempts to release her imagination from the patriarchal gaze by weaving apparent unrelated narratives together.
Through clay sculpture and water fountains Renata gives form to botanic and mythological characters. Their nuanced voice presents a story of hope and ruin, an entanglement of reactions against ecocide and the growing fascist politics of our world. In En par.
Ch.I ——— dusk, water serves as a form of portal, an active, living being who ties all species and their myths together, thus animating their harmony into a joint reality.
Her use of clay continues her methodology of repetition, inherited from her deep understanding of textile production. Repetitive motions and gestures in clay have become Renata’s main material of research as she continues to explore the possibilities behind the exploration of form through a long term period.
