For many years, the Turkish pianist and composer Fazil Say has been garnering praise worldwide. Now, he takes on one of the greatest monuments in harpsichord music: Bach’s Goldberg variations. Say combines the thirty variations with Schubert’s beloved Sonata no. 21.
De Goldbergvariaties, je moet het maar durven: ze zijn een regelrechte monsterklus voor de pianist en er zijn wereldberoemde opnames van gemaakt door onder meer Glenn Gould. Maar als Fazıl Say speelt, lijkt het alsof hij de muziek ter plekke bedenkt, alsof hij improviseert. Daardoor klinken ook de beroemde meesterwerken van Bach en Schubert als nieuw.
