Residentie Orkest - Matthäus Passion
Bach’s St Matthew Passion is a musical miracle of song, music and symbolism. A complex and moving tribute to the Biblical story, led by principal guest conductor Richard Egarr.
The St Matthew Passion is a tale that moves and transports us every time. Follow Jesus Christ in his last days, through betrayal, suffering and forgiveness to salvation. Johann Sebastian Bach’s St Matthew Passion is a poignant tribute that the Residentie Orkest performs every year in the week before Easter. It is also one of the longest and most complex compositions by this great master, full of symbolism and musical rapture.
Fourteen stations of the cross, twelve apostles, seven days of creation, four evangelists and the Holy Trinity. The story of the final days of the Son of God has deep layers of interpretation that inspire a continuous sense of wonder. Bach wrote music that masterfully builds tension, with the choir and orchestra working together, complementing and challenging each other. The night is led by Richard Egarr, Bach expert and enthusiast. Combined with a star cast of soloists, the Netherlands Chamber Choir and the youthful voices of the Haags Matrozenkoor, this is an event you do not want to miss.
