Of course, The Hague is always beautiful and nice. Every season has its charm and there is always something to do, but spring remains special. The days grow brighter, nature awakens and slowly everything opens up again. From attractions to beach bars to excursions, there is plenty to discover. Here is some inspiration to fully enjoy spring in The Hague.
Tips to enjoy spring in The Hague
Spring is so nice in The Hague; nature is awakening and the beach bars are reopening.
Things to do outside
- Cherry blossom in bloom
Beautiful cherry blossom trees are in bloom early in the spring. The trees are in full bloom in the Zeeheldenkwartier at the beginning of March. At the end of March you can find the trees in full bloom on the Sweelinckplein and in the Zuiderpark in mid-April.
- Walking on the Clingendael estate
It is wonderful to walk on the Clingendael estate during spring. Azaleas, rhododendrons and ornamental cherries bloom in spring. Their colors are enchanting. The Japanese garden is also located on the estate. This garden is only open twice a year because it is so vulnerable due to the rare flowers and plants. The Japanese Garden (the oldest and largest Japanese garden in the Netherlands) is therefore Clingendael's pride. The Japanese Garden is open from the end of April to mid-June. The entrance is on the side of the Sterrebos. The exit is on the side of the wooden bridge (this used to be the main entrance). A maximum of 100 people are allowed in the garden.
- The coast
The beach clubs will start building up again in March. A great moment and the start of hopefully a long and sunny time. With a bit of luck, you can already enjoy a drink on a terrace somewhere along our 11-kilometer-long coastline in the spring, whether or not behind a window.
- Het Hyacintenbos (The hyacinth forest)
The hyacinth forest is located on Landgoed Ockenburgh. In April, the forest blossoms into a beautiful area full of wild hyacinths. Silence and nature predominate. A beautiful piece of nature in The Hague!
Must do in The Hague
- Art and Antiques Market
Although this market takes place all year round, it is most atmospheric during the spring and in the summer when it is on the Lange Voorhout. This stately avenue lends itself very well for strolling along the many stalls full of antiques, books, paintings and art. Take a break on one of the cozy terraces around the market. From spring onwards, all kinds of food, lifestyle and creative markets will be organized in the city.
Art and Antiques Market: 2 May to 22 September every Thursday and Sunday
- Sculpture Clingenbosch
One of the best kept secrets is the sculpture garden of Clingenbosch. This is the estate that also houses the Voorlinden museum. From May to October there is a guided tour of the impressive sculpture garden every Thursday. Here you will come across work by, for example, Henry Moore and Anish Kapoor. You must register in advance for this tour. An absolute must!
