150 years Mondriaan

In 2022 it will be 150 years since one of the greatest artists of the 20th century was born: Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). Kunstmuseum Den Haag, which has the largest Mondrian collection in the world with over 300 works, does not let this pass unnoticed.
In 2017, the Kunstmuseum in The Hague showed all Mondrians in its collection for the first time in a major retrospective. Especially for this anniversary, director Benno Tempel and curator Caro Verbeek are creating an exhibition in which they show how Mondrian moved among his friends and how he moved many artists after him.
The makers ask what it means for a museum to manage such an important and inspiring collection. It is no coincidence that the museum regularly displays and buys work by diverse artists who feel a connection with him. In Mondriaan Moves, an exhibition simultaneously examines different branches in the vast network surrounding Mondriaan and tells the story of a collection that was created around this genius.
