Diana Harteveld finds inspiration everywhere for her exuberant creations in shape and color: gardens, parks, antique objects or paintings by old masters, flowers and plants. Her ceramic creations in cheerful colors or completely in white, richly arranged in finely decorated vases, are real eye-catchers.

“The material I work with is clay. Everything starts with the material - my ideas, my inspiration and my motivation to create. I make decorative sculptural objects, often with a botanical theme. In it I express the beauty of the nature around us with attention to the rich history of the decorative arts. In many of my objects I combine aesthetics with functionality without making the object really usable. I often consciously look for contradictions in the materials, but I don't let them fight with each other.

My objects are a means of sharing my belief in the importance of beauty in art and its positive influence on the viewer. For me as an artist the effect of my work on the viewer is important. I create an object from my own thoughts and emotions, but when creating I involve the future viewer. As the maker of the object I have a bond with it, but it is only a beginning – there is room for the viewer to make their own connection with the work.”

The exhibition will open on Saturday, November 19 at 4 p.m.
