Ed van der Kooy's artistry ties in seamlessly with his wanderlust, the strong desire to travel, view and understand the world. And especially Nepal, China and the surrounding countries. Ed van der Kooy is known for his large portraits such as those of Chinese ladies. But those large portraits, meticulous and detailed paintings, was his concept from years ago. Time to develop further.

In 2019 Ed rediscovered how expressive and pleasant working was when he started painting more loosely. And when the lockdown started in March of 2020, his need for a new tension arose because the medium of exhibitions disappeared. Ed decided to make oil paintings on paper (and later glued on a panel) with impressions of this complicated year 2020. He came up with the idea to publish the paintings as a book, a kind of picture book. He threw himself into painting and made 53 paintings in six months, while he used to paint a maximum of 4 a year. The 53 paintings represent impressions of his impressions of the year 2020.

The exhibition will show all 53 works that Ed van der Kooy made for this project this year. The works are offered for sale in combination with the then just published book. Each painting is added to the book in a special box after the exhibition. Note: be quick because a large number have already been sold! This means that this will be the first and only time that all works can be seen together.
