A circular movement as an artistic method
Circle Methods explores circular movements in artists' practices. Through turntable improvisation (dj sniff), a kinetic sculpture in the form of a gyroscope (Alper Çekinmez) and an audiovisual installation that plays with the non-linearity of time (Gin Kimpark), this edition highlights the form that changed human history forever.
The invention of the wheel marked a major shift in technological progress. From pottery and carriages to gear systems and the first granny bicycles, one shape changed human history forever. Nature cycles through seasons and days, wheels turn and melodies repeat, encapsulated on perfectly round vinyl records, reworked and replayed during DJ sniff's spinning improvisation. Moving in a circle, unlike going straight, seemingly does not lead to progress. However, disrupting the cycle of repetition and reinventing direction is reflected in Alper Çekinmez's new kinetic device Aerotrim.
Gin Kimpark's work ‘No Swaying, Nothing Happens 2’ focuses on this disruption of repetition in the context of non-linearity of time and its subjective perception in a tangible form of an audiovisual installation.
