国际视野下的中国绘画——中国国家画院优秀作品交流展

Pulchri Studio is proud to present "98 contemporary masterpieces from the Chinese National Academy of Painting," an exhibition featuring nearly a hundred works by 68 artists from the renowned Chinese National Academy of Painting (CNAP). From 30 June to 21 July, visitors can see how these Chinese artists give traditions and innovation and place in their contemporary painting.

Top artists
The works on display are by leading Chinese artists who have achieved considerable recognition and success in their home countries. The artists have all been selected for this prestigious academy. There, they are given the opportunity to further develop their talents in collaboration with other renowned masters and even receive a salary in return.

Tradition and Innovation
The exhibition shows a diversity of artworks. There are artists who stay true to classical Chinese painting traditions. They create flower and bird studies or misty landscapes with ink and red stamps, as they have been produced in China for centuries. But in addition, there are artists who deliberately break with these traditions. They look for new ways to capture the modern zeitgeist. For example, by painting more personal and expressive representations in non-traditional oil paint. This tension between conservation and renewal, which is also very recognisable in Dutch painting, seems to care little for distance and culture.

Craft: The heartbeat of Chinese art
Classical or modern, traditional or innovative, one thing is reflected in all the artworks on display: the great importance of craftsmanship in Chinese art. From detailed brushwork to impressive sculpture, these works repeatedly show how dedication to materials, techniques and craftsmanship have characterised Chinese art for thousands of years and continue to do so today.

Artist Talk
During a special event, Sunday afternoon 30 June at 13:00, prior to the opening, four Chinese and four Dutch artists will discuss the role tradition, craft and innovation play in their work. This cultural exchange offers us a special insight into how universal the language of art really is today.
