Dinie Wikkerink and Dorothee Bavinck - Our reality
Dorothee Bavinck and Dinie Wikkerink met at the GKf (now DuPho). It is a group of photographers that stands for social engagement.
This translates into mentality - the way they work and look at the world - and artistry. Both photographers have participated in group exhibitions, getting to know each other and each other's work. In 2013, Pulchri Studio offered its members the opportunity, for the 'Compañeros' exhibition, to invite a non-member artist for a joint presentation. Wikkerink then approached Bavinck for this. And so was born the first exhibition of them together at Pulchri Studio. The chosen theme then was 'All to woman'. A larger exhibition 'Carry me home' followed in 2020. The title literally means 'Carry me home'. This theme was then interpreted metaphorically by both artists. They were looking for a homecoming in their own imagination. For Wikkerink, that was almost literally with photographs taken close to home. Bavinck found coming home in her imagination in taking pictures further away, not at home, but on a journey.
And now in 2024: 'Our Reality'. The personal development has continued, and with this exhibition, both photographers show very different content. There is great appreciation for each other's work, they follow each other critically, but leave each other free in choosing this exhibition. In a more personal text accompanying the series, they explain what fascinates them. In these, there are similarities but also differences.
